my friend calls me cry 6 times a day because a lady from our church stepped up and took the role of her mother(my friend was ward of the state) now the lady wants nothing to do with my friend... the lady tells her to stay away from her all the time... but then the next day the lady calls my friend and tells her to come to back to her house only so she can make my friend feel like she doesn't want my friend there... I tell my friend to stop being her puppet but she tells me i don't understand... Am i wrong because i don't want to listen to her cry about the same thing everyday when i give her advice and she doesn't follow it.

I have learned over the years that the best thing you can do for yourself in situations like this is not give advice. It is so frustrating to give advice and people say "I know...but." A lot of times we don't know what kind of advice to give or it's a situation we are not equipped to give advice. I would simply tell this friend that you don't know what to say, but you would like to help them find someone to help. Go with them to talk to your pastor. Is there another adult that this person could talk to for help? Maybe an adult who would help her find a counselor to talk to about the problem. They need to find someone who can help them with this issue. This way you are free to be their friend. Go out and see a movie or go bowling. Find things that are fun to do and do them so it's not always about them crying and you getting frustrated. I really hope things work out. Good Luck!

I got a friend like that and believe me you actually have to tell them to shut the hell up sometimes. sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not but be honest and it will likely work itself out. it did with my friend.
