No you won't be able to turn off the firewall. It is set by the Network Admins for just this type of thing. Having a Continuous connection like that is a threat to a companies security.
Also just being on the net isn't a continuous connection due to the fact that if you are viewing a web page - once it is done loading - the connection is dropped, whereas like the yahoo games it is continually sending information back and forth - that is why you see other peoples moves in real time.

Ha ha ha! Do you honestly think your work's IT group would just grant anyone administrative privileges so that you could turn on or off the company firewall whenever you felt like it? Seriously, think before asking.

No, the IT Admin has set this to prevent people from accessing certain sites. There are ways around it, but then you'd probably be violating the companies policies and could be fired for doing so. Not really worth it.
