Nope. Unfortunately, many of the English majors I've come across have mediocre linguistic abilities. There is the occasional diamond in the ruff, but most make frequent mistakes. One thing you must bear in mind, though, is that English majors are in college to learn. They don't begin with a perfect understanding of the English language. However, give them a few years and I'm sure they will become "cunning linguists!"

oh, goodness, no - my roomate was a great English major, but was dyslexic and really hated reading novels. (She was an amazing poetry analyst, though!)
