It could be Gout. There are specific lab tests that need to be done to diagnose that. She needs to see her doctor. The symptoms would be alleviated if she wouldn't drink. The old cliche, if it hurts when you do that, don't do it.

Could very well be related to Gout. I suggest that before you check online about it, Tell yr mom to tell the doc or you quietly tell your doc that this happens when she drinks. See what he/she (the doc) says, and then carry on the research online.
