I have been to Flamingo Land, Lightwater Valley, Alton Towers and Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
I would say Blackpool Pleasure Beach as there are few theme parks on earth that have preserved the history of the park as well as a commitment to make the type of rides that no other park has. For example, it has a Wild Mouse ride dating from the 1950s (one of only 3 wooden ones in the world) which looks relatively tame but is actually the fiercest ride I've ever been on and a ride called The Grand National from the 1930s which is one of only 2 rides in the world where two trains race alongside each other, a ride called the Steeplechase from the 70s where you sit on horses and race against each other over hills (again, one of only a few in the world). It used to have a funhouse dating from the 1930s as well, which burnt down and has now been replaced by Valhalla, a dark log flume ride with water and fire effects- there is no other ride of its type in the UK. The Big One is the tallest rollercoaster in the UK and the Avalanche is unique to the UK- a bobsleigh type ride.
Flamingo Land doesn't have a great sense of landscape/theming overall but it has a few extreme (but short) twisty rollercoasters and a new log flume with just one massive drop. It's not worth a trip to unless you live very nearby.
Alton Towers' theming is the closest to any Disney park in the UK but complaints from nearby residents mean that they are prevented from making large rollercoasters above the ground (so there are no beautiful big wood coasters). The Nemesis is an intense twisting coaster in which you stand up and Oblivion is one giant fast drop in to the ground. It's a shame that there are very few medium intensity rollercoasters.
Disneyland Paris is the finest THEME park I have been to though. The attention to detail and magic is second to none and Big Thunder Mountain is amazing. It is more magical than the American Disney parks.

Thorpe Park, great for teens, and the queues aren't as long as the ones in Alton Towers. Nemesis Inferno is the best ride there, well, the new rides might be good, but I haven't been on them yet.

Alton Towers hands down for Air, Rita Queen Of Speed, and many other classy rides. It is best to go midweek, though...

Had a great day out at Chessington yesterday - great mix of exhilerating rides for older kids/adults; rides for the kiddies; and the real bonus...it has a really nice mini zoo.
Pretty unique from that point of view I would have thought
