Bloodworms, tubifex worms, brine shrimp, beefheart. Pretty much any meat-based foods.

And for the record, your betta will eat like he's never full. It's up to you to limit him, because he will eat everything you put in there for him if he likes it.

Try feeding him a shelled pea once a week to alleviate any constipation and to clean him out.

Good luck!

Sound like he's healthy. A healthy betta always acts like he is starving even when he has over eaten and is dangerously bloated. (See link for picture of what a healthy betta belly looks like.) Over feeding will foul his water, and cause bloating. Fed them once a day what they can eat in 2-3 minutes max. Mine beg for food every time they see me even if I fed them 20 minutes ago. Even if I've been over feeding and they have the belly bulge going.

If he is eating the pellets, and the pellets have worm/shrimp/fish as their primary ingredent he should do fine. If he's not eating pellets try flakes. (Store bought bettas are use to one or the other.) Note that bettas specific flake/pellet, or freeze dried food like brine shrimp, and blood worms will help enhance his color. Avoid live, or frozen food as it can carry disease. Just be aware some bettas are picky, and once they get the good stuff will refuse pellets. Store bought bettas may need time try newer foods like worms.

I remember a site that described betta fish, but I don't recall reading about other things that they eat. If he's really active you might try feeding him more pellets.

Sounds like you just have a healthy, active fish. You can look at all the different types of betta food at your local pet store. You can also look up the betta fish on line, they are from Thailand and live in shallow murky water..usually in ricepattys.

How often do you feed your beta....Perhaps you are not giving him enough pellets.....

If you are feeding him once a week try to feed him twice a week with the equal amount of food you would have given him at the end of the week....

they love blood worms, brine shrimp, fruit flies, whole daphnia and probably other stuff I can't think of right now. Unlike most tropical fish they don't like veggies. I normally give peas and cooked zucc. to my other fish- even my cichlids. My 3 female bettas won't touch the stuff.

His actions are normal, because beta fish are high strung. Try feeding him some dried fish for a change. Take care!
