I give Kim Jong Il more credit than that. I would have to say it is more saber rattling than an actual threat. The North Korean economy is in the toilet and if he can get some attention from world leaders he will likely demand a payoff to stop their weapons program. It has happened before and will probably happen again in 5-10 years.
North Korea may be allied with China, but China is in the middle of an economic awakening and they will not let North Korea attack two of their largest trading partners in Japan and the US.
Clearly we could wipe it off the map, and the fact they have no oil means we could nuke them without worrying about forestalling our own economy, but that would likely cause a huge backlash from our own trading parterns. Therefore that is unlikely as well.
I'm not too worried and won't be until they actually land a missle on our soil. There is much question about if they even could hit the US with their SCUD level technology.

Well Iraq "should have known" that if the US attacked, everything would have been easy as pie...right? Yet look at how out-of-control the situation in Iraq has gotten for the US. And these are just guerillas and insurgents causing havoc. Let's imagine what N. Korea - a country with a powerful military and powerful weapons would be able to do to the US...the situation that you paint is certainly very unrealistic.
The US is not escalating the situation with N. Korea because it is 1. afraid and 2. N. Korea has no oil.

No, regrettably not. the reason being that Russia and China are both on the UN protection Council and may veto any UN measures to intrude with North Korea. (They both see North Korea as a "buffer zone"). undemanding answer, i'm afraid. i have researched the North Korean issue at lot at present. No element in CIA, SIS, SAS attempting to take out Kim. there'll be yet another and yet another Kim. heritage will teach, in latter years, that the genocide taking position there, at this very second, in the worst in the heritage of mankind.

That would be asking a little to much of the North Korean govenment (or any government for that matter). Nobody thinks of the long term consequences. Actually, it is fear of nuclear retaliation that prevents nations from using them at all, so far. Let's just pray it stays that way.

Have you ever seen how brainwashed those North Koreans are?
Trust me, they'd rather be blown to pieces than let anything American go on existing.
