Do women still have their period?

2006-07-06 06:47:01 · 8 answers · asked by Angel 1 in Health Women's Health

Is not the egg what causes periods? So the egg still travels into the uterus. Then what do the tubes do. I'm still confussed. How would the egg get into the uterus if the tubes where tied?

Yes.

The tube tying prevents the egg from going from the ovary to the uterus. The uterus still will form and discard the entromitum--the womb lining--each month. Ergo a woman's flow will continue.

Yes, they just don't ovulate. The only way to get rid of your period is to have a hysterectomy. Having your tubes tied only stops the egg from traveling from the ovaries through the Fallopian tube and into the uterus. Having a hysterectomy removes the uterus and tubes and ovaries, completely doing away with having a period.

My mom's period actually got heavier after she had her tubes tied.

The normal cycle of ovulating, a pregnancy not occurring and then the period will still continue. The only difference is that the egg cannot be fertilized since the pathway (fallopian tube) has been cut or tied.
