3x - 4y = 8
-4y = -3x + 8
y = (3/4)x - 2
.75x - y = -2
-y = (-3/4)x - 2
y = (3/4)x + 2
Same slope, different y-intercepts
ANS : Inconsistent

ok.. first.. can you change them to slope-intercept form?
3x - 4y = 8 ==> y= 3/4x -2... slope 3/4 and y-intercept of -2
.75x - y = -2 ==> y = 3/4x +2... slope 3/4 and y-intercept of +2
these two equations have the same slope.. therefore they are parallel.. they will never cross... so no solution.... I would say that they are independent... but... I'm not sure about that terminology.

if you multiply (.75x-y=-2)times four, you get 3x-4y=-8, which is impossible because 3x-4y should equal 8, not -8.
