contacts require a separate prescription from glasses. the exam is slightly more involved and generally has an extra fee attached. also, contacts are generally more expensive than glasses in the long run and a new prescription is required every 6 months, instead of annually like glasses. also, eye infections are more common in contact lens wearers, as the lenses do not allow the eye to "breathe" as easily and may trap bacteria, as well as promote touching of the eye area. there are, however, benefits to using contact lenses - slightly better vision correction, reduced glare in sunlight, etc.

Ask the doctor about contacts, if he thinks you are old enough he may be willing to raise the issue with your parents. He may even be able to send you home with a trial pair. My parents kept me in glasses until I was 15, good luck.

Yes its okay to contact birth relatives. If the birth mother rejects contact, that's her problem not yours. You have every right to contact extended family. They are your family. There is this thing called independent thinking and although bmom wants no contact, extended family maybe open to include the adoptee as a member of their family. Why, because you are a part of them. You are a part of that biological family. Adoption does not sever blood lines. imho. As an abuse survivior you are taught someone making you keep THEIR secrets is abusive. Something to think about.

You have to take what the Doc says seriously. If you don't keep them clean or where them too long (days at a time) you can get a serious infection or damage you cornea. If the damage is sever you may never be able to wear contacts again

Contacts are really a lot better i know because i have them. You should talk to your parents and tell them how feel and what you are thinking. They should understand. I don't know how old you are but i think you can convince your parents that contacts is the better choice. Good Luck.

ask them why they won't let you and try to persuade them or something. maybe casually walk over there or something while they are fixing the glasses.
