The PS3 will have a couple advantages over XBox 360:
- Both versions of the PS3 ($499 and $599) come standard with a Blu-ray drive, which will allow for game disc capacities up to 50GB
- The PS3 will implement PS2 hardware, so that all games on the PS2 are playable (the XBox 360 uses an software emulator that is only capable of playing "some" older XBox games)
- On paper, the PS3 has a slight advantage in overall performance capabilities, though this lead likely won't matter to a majority of the games released
- The option to have an HDMI output (by buying the $599 PS3)
In the XBox's defense, it will supply an HD-DVD drive add-on later this year that can support capacities up to 45GB on a single disc. Also, at the time of the PS3 launch, it will have more than 150 games already out on the market, along with close to 10 million units sold. And if online gaming is your cup of tea, then Xbox live will have more than 4 million subscribers too at the time the PS3 hits store shelves.
The one big disadvantage though, is the HDMI output. Buying the HD-DVD drive add-on for the XBox 360 sounds great for gaming, but if you plan on also watching movies, realize that copyright protection might force HD movies to have to use an HDMI connection. That just means that there's a chance that the HD movie industry will go with the protection, but it's not a guarantee. And since the XBox 360 doesn't have an HDMI output, you'd be screwed in that respect.

I have a Playstation 2 and someone is trying to steal it from me. I might need it for awhile because I don't have a DVD player. And it is a DVD player and a CD player. why spend more on PS3? XBox has clearer graphics than PS2. I seen the difference.

PS3 is a good option even though it has a big price tag. Why? Simply because the HD Blue Ray player with HDMI outputs at that price alone are worth getting a PS3. Any Blue Ray player on the market right now and probably for the next few months will be at least 1k. On top of that, games produced on Blue Ray will look hot on a HD home theatre system.
