Summer is the worst time - overcrowded with tourists (no offence), and the heat... it's like being in a giant concrete oven, with fumes instead of air. I'd go off-season in Autumn or Spring. You'll miss Wimbledon, but let's face it, only a fool spends the money to travel half way around the world to watch a small yellow ball go back and forth for hours in the baking heat, so that's not really a problem.

Well, I'm going to London in September. I have a guide book called "London for Dummies" and the author says that Autumn is his favorite time to visit because the weather is mild, it rains infrequently, the London Open House Weekend is in September and many other cultural events, and there are far fewer tourists around to crowd up the place. Hope you have fun, and maybe I'll see ya there!

It is always a good time to come to London but at a push I would say that September and October are the best months. The summer madness has finished, weather is normally ok, kids are back at school and better deals to be hard on airfare, hotels, attractions and theatre. I think July is the best time to visit London. The days are long, weather is likely less wet. Outdoor drama is available at Regent's Park. You should also go to the Proms concerts at the Albert Hall, something that is only available in the summer. If you go in early July, you can also try to go to Wimbledon.
