You can still have a period. It's very rare, but it does happen. If you are pregnant when this happens, you don't shed all the blood, just a little of it.
Implantation bleeding is when the egg implants onto the uterine wall. This can cause bleeding because is disrupts the blood cells on the surface of the uterus. It's pretty common and nothing to worry about.
There are other things that can cause bleeding during pregnancy: placenta previa- placenta either partially or fully covers the cervix; placental abruption- the placenta starts to tear away from the uterine wall; irritation to the cervix or vagina; capillaries can rupture in or around the cervix; toward the end of pregnancy, close to labor, there may be bleeding when the mucus plug dislodges itself, which is cappilaries bursting like I said above; miscarriage will cause a lot of bleeding and cramping; it's also possible to have light, regular periods.
I have seen all of these things, and some are normal, some aren't, but any bleeding at any time during pregnancy should be reported to your doctor.

No, it's not. The egg does not "burrow". The linings of the uterus cover it, the egg itself never moves. I think you mean bleeding in pregnancy, and that would be caused by any loose lining that was already in there before conception. If you mean the period itself, it's the lining slofing off to make room for more if need be.

Yes, that is exactly what can happen. When the egg implants there are tons of vessles in the lining that it goes through. Some women never notice the bleeding or dont' really get any, others do.
Read this site below, it's pretty cool on explaining what is going on with a woman's body.

It can be or it could also be something more serious. My wife was pregnant a couple of summers ago and that happened. The doctors at first said it was normal but at her checkup she found that she had miscarried in the first month and the bleeding was a result. Don't always just brush it off as "normal." Especially if it is continuous bleeding.

It worries me to see all these woman asking all of these basic questions about their bodies and their cycles….and then getting all these different answers – and usually most of these answers are WRONG!
This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive. My Doctor recommended it to me and after 1 year of trying I got the book. It worked the very next month. It turns out that my timing was wrong due to mis-information. I hope it helps you, too! It's not only about getting pregnant. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

Yes, you can bleed from the egg burrowing itself into the nutrient rich uterine lining. Go to www.webmd.com or call your doctor for more information

Ask an OB doctor if you are still confused. Look in the phone book for one and ask. They are professionals.
