google unit conversions, find out how many square miles 3 acres is, take the square root of that, and then you will know how many "sides" of the square you would have to run to equal 1 mile, assuming the yard is square.
EDIT: ok, here is the work...cuz I'm bored.
3 acres = .0046875 square miles
Now, to find the sides of the "square yard", take the square root, which will be .06846 miles on each side.
Now, how many "sides" of your yard will you have to run?
1 mile / .06846 miles = 14.6 "sides".
Since there are 4 sides in a square, then 14.6 / 4 = 3.65 laps.
Note: if the yard is not a square, but you know the length and width, you should still be able to figure it out, using the information above.
There you go. I really hope this is helpful, and I'm not contributing to your downfall in education by not letting you think through your own problems!

My yard is 1 acre. It is about 340 feet long by 150 feet across. It is therefore about 1000 feet in perimeter. I would have to run 5 1/4 laps to be a mile, but not all yards are shaped the same, and it would depend on if you ran on the inside or the outside, but figure about 1 1/2-2 laps.

Some good answers. Of course it depends on the shape of the yard. A perfectly square 1 acre yard has sides = 69.57 yards (since an acre is 4840 square yards). A mile is 1760 yards, so it would take 25.298 laps to cover a mile. If 3 one acre plots were next to each other, the distance around them would be twice the distance around one square acre, so it would take 12.65 laps.
You could pace it off. Count how many steps to walk around a quarter mile track. Multiply by 4 to see how many steps in a mile. Then, count how many steps around the yard. Divide that into how many steps for a mile.

There is no way to answer that question without knowing the perimeter of the yard. A long, narrow 3 acres would require many fewer laps than a circular 3 acres.

Depends on its shape. If the yard is square, then it is approximately 360 feet on a side, or 1440 feet all around, and four laps will be a bit over a mile. If the yard is a foot wide and 130680 feet long, then one lap would be about 50 miles.

Impossilbe to tell. An acre is 43,560 square feet. However, it all depends on the shape. Think about it, if you had a square that had 4 sides of 4 feet, the perimeter would be 16 feet and 16 square feet. If you had a rectangle with 2 sides that were 8 feet and 2 sides that were 2 feet, the area would be 16 square feet, but the perimeter would be 18 feet.

Acres are measured by area, not by perimeter. There is no way to tell from what information you have given.
