Ooh, ooh! I know about it. I'm not the best explainer of it though. I'll just tell you my method of it.

First, you need to remember at least one dream per night. It's very important. If you don't remember your dreams you won't be able to know if you had a lucid dream or not. Keep a dream journal by your bed at night. Before you go to sleep, repeat to yourself "I'll remeber my dream" In the morning or when you wake up from your dream write your dream down in the best detail. Write something even if it is fragmentory, or just write "I didn't remember anything". Sooner or later, you will start remembering them well. It took me four weeks, but now I remember at least two dreams very well each night.

Now you can start whatever method you use to get lucid. I say "Am I dreaming?" during the day to myself. I'm still working on getting better. I've only had two lucid dreams, and you may not start till a month later. It varies per person. Hope this helped.

Haha gave you a great site: ld4all.com has just about everything other sites have and then some.

I've noticed that most of my lucid dreams are when I go back to sleep after sleeping for about 5 hours just like you'll see other people say. I guess they're right =)

Check into techniques like WILD, MILD etc. I don't recommend several of the techniques; I have succeeded many times using MILD and not near as many with WILD, but it's my favorite.

I wanted to add that I had several lucid dreams that I was able to control without good dream recall AND before I started my dream journal. So don't get discouraged just because you don't recall a dream a night or want to mess with writing it down- which reminds me a voice recorder or the likes is usually more preferred over writing. And don't wait; you'll most likely forget most of the dream.

I've had VERY lucid dreams in my past. By definition, lucid dreaming means that even though you are sound asleep, you are aware that you are dreaming.

While being conscious of yourself dreaming, you are able to steer the course of your dream - or even "hijack" it and turn it into something else.

For example, I once dreamt that I was being chased by the grim reaper. In my dream, I fled my parent's house in a panic. When I got to the sidewalk outside I suddenly realized that there is no such thing as a grim reaper -and suddenly, I realize that I was, in fact, dreaming. Taking advantage of this knowledge, I was able to fly high above the reaper and go somewhere else, somewhere more pleasant.

Forcing a lucid dream is difficult, to say the least. Some hold that if you repeat to yourself "I will have very lucid dreaming" or something to that effect, can help you attain a lucid dream when you finally fall into the REM stage of sleep. Others say that if you concentrate on a pleasant place or situation before falling asleep, you can achieve that in your dreams.

The most important thing about this phenomena is that you must be able to realize that you are dreaming WHILE you are dreaming. Once that is achieved, you can control the dream.

The hardest part is getting there...

Actually, from my gatherance on the subject, I know that therapists who attempt to bring patients into post-hypnotic regression would like to approximate a state of the lucid dream state, for as accurate a recall as possible. From what I understand, there are breathing, meditation techniques, and mental exercises that one can do to optimize this state of mind... also to enhance one's ability to more readily enter into this semi-conscious awareness of the dream scape. It is believed by many that one's ability to delve into one's own subsonscious may also be a side benefit. There is also the question of whether it is this kind of lucid "REM" that might allow for "remote viewing." There may also be links to "out of body" & supposed capasities for "astral projection." (I try to keep an open mind about the later, but there remains in me a "healthy skeptisim" about the actual notion of astral projection.)
As far as links are concerned, I would definately consider choosing random sites from the google search on "lucid dreaming." There is so much writtn on the subject that it would take over a month to do a proper survey. Good Luck.

I had a couple of freinds, years ago, who were really into lucid dreaming. One of them gave me lessons in it, and I had some success with it at the time.

One of the techniques he used that really worked for me was staring at my hands. Throught the waking day, periodically look at your hands while thinking about lucid dreaming, about what you will do in the dream, what you are capable of.

This works in two ways. First, it makes a connection from the waking world to the dream world, as you are bound to see your own hands in your dream at some point. When you do, you will remember seeing them while you were awake, and you'll remember the association to lucid dreaming. The second way it woks is symbolic. We create with our hands, we act with our hands, and much of what we are capable of in life is possible because of our hands. So the hands are a powerful symbol of action and creation, and being aware of them as such helps you realize the power you have to shape you own will, your own destiny, and even your own dreams.

While I did find this technique helpful, I also noticed that the first couple of times I became aware of myself in my dreams after looking at my hands, it was startling. I woke myself up more than once. But the more you practice, as with anything, the more comfortable you will be. Soon you'll be able to change form, fly, or even mold the physical aspects of the dream world to your own tastes.

Best of luck, I hope you enjoy the journey!
