I've always had the hardest time applying blush--no matter how I do it, I always end up looking like one of those porcelain dolls with two red spots on my cheeks (very unnatural) or as if I didn't put on blush at all. This isn't necessarily a way to apply blush, but I now can wear blush and look good with it because I use the Christian Dior Diorshow Blush. It comes in a little square container and it's loose powder mixed in with translucent sparkly powder which makes your cheeks seem really radiant and lively when you apply it. It has a built in applicator--it's made out of a foamy material. Here's a picture of it.

Anyway I found that it worked absolute wonders for me because it's very fast and easy to apply, and it always looks really good no matter how little or how much I put on. It is a tad bit pricey (I think I got it for $39) but it was a price I was willing to pay to finally be able to wear blush. :)

This is how I do it, its foolproof. I don't use blush. I use a bronzer, all through the year. Its a little lighter in the winter and darker in the summer. First, you need to make sure you have the right tool. You will need to invest in a good blush brush. Dip into the bronzer and smile. See the part where your cheeks round? Thats the apple of your cheeks, starting at the center, blend outward. Don't put it any lower than noselevel. This also works with blush, but bronzer is great because it gives you that glow and makes you look very healthy. I also dab a little on my chin, nose, and forehead---anywhere the sun naturally hits your face.

apply blush like ur painting something that u want a bit of texture too.
start at hairline, right above ur cheekbone, then work ur way to about the center of ur cheek. starting at hair will help if u are unsure how dark its going to be.
if u have a chubbier face and want a more chiseled look apply a
blush that is about 2 shades darker than ur natural skin tone below ur cheekbone. [be careful not to make this to dark]
plus just experiment, like right before ur about to take a shower, try different techniques to see which u like the best
good luck i hope that helps

I am color certified by Mary Kay. That means I have been trained in applying color. For blush, go for a color that gives you just a hint of a flush. Start two fingers from your nose, about in the center of your eye.........get a good blush brush...not one of those skinny ones.....sweep across the blush and then blow the excess powder off. Start in the middle of your cheekbone and sweep up to your temple. Then blend downwards. You don't want your blush to fight with your eyeshadow! Make sure you don't have a line of blush, but more a hint of color. Hope this helps.

My grandmother has recently taught me that you should smile and apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. Not many people sweep blush up to the sides of your cheeks anymore.

if you can see your cheekbones, lightly apply on your cheekbones, but dont go all the way to the hair line, or past the pupil of your eye.
if you have somewhat of a chubby face, but it right below the cheekbone.
the take a tissue and lightly wipe the excess off, you dont want to look like a drag queen! it should be a natural look. =]
