I've had contacts for over 15 years. Being new to contacts, I highly recommend that you go with the disposable variety. When you have problems as you're starting out, there's less risk of messing up the contact (just grab a new one). I had to replace my first set of contacts twice as I tore one while cleaning it, and lost another down the sink. Tough lessons when each set was over $100. Some additional tips, get used to having your fingers near/in your eyes. Getting contacts in and out can be the most challenging part of wearing them. Always close the sink when you're messing with your contacts, even if you're not planning on taking them out. If the tip of the cleaner is red, don't stick the contact in your eye without rinsing it with a rinser (not red tip). Always carry some eye drops with you. Initially, my eyes were a lot drier wearing contacts then glasses, but did get better with time. However, ac in a car, a dry breeze, or a cold winter day can quickly dry your eyes out, and dry eyes with contacts just flat out sucks! Also, depending on your vision, you may still want eye glasses for some activities (for me I have trouble focusing on objects very small that are very close to me while wearing contacts like when I'm building a model). Enjoy, they can be a great pleasure once you're used to them!

I don't wear contacts but my sister and boyfriend do and believe me as convenient and better as they may seem they are a handful and expensive to keep up with. I would recommend soft lenses to prevent scratching and irritation and make sure that you have good solvent to keep them clean. You will need a holding container for them which has a left and right side and make sure that they don't get mixed up even if the container is labeled. Colored contacts are easier to find on the floor but be careful when around sinks, etc when dealing with contacts because you don't want to lose them. They are costly!!! Boston advance solution is a good product to use when it comes to contact lenses as I am sure there are others in the local grocery store and CVS aisles. Glasses may not be as attractive but trust me when I say that they are much less work than dealing with contact lenses. Today people can get glasses in a variety of styles and sizes to fit their face in a fashionable way. Just go to a place like Eyes 4 You or the nearest Costco for more details from the experts. Best of luck! Just be sure that if you choose contacts you are going to be very careful and responsible.

Contact lenses are more attractive and provide better peripheral vision than glasses. However, some eye conditions work better with glasses. Contact lenses must be closely monitored and kept sterile in order to prevent eye irritations and infections that can result from frequent insertion and removal from the eyes. Contact lenses are also more easily lost and can cause corneal ulcers if left in place too long. Bottom line: if you are forgetful or clumsy and hurry a lot, get glasses. If you are careful, meticulous with hygiene and unhurried most of the time, contact lenses will work for you. Some contact lens wearers have glasses as a back-up.

Well I have been wearing gas permeable contact lenses for over 15 years now. Have not had any problem. However, some people prefer the one-daily versions of soft lenses, which may probably be better for your eye health. However, usually the optometrist lets you try out several kinds before you make any purchase. That way, you'll find which ones are best and most comfortable for you:)!

i just got contacts and i love them. im not sure exactly what you mean by "tips" but i will try to help you. you have to either pick hard or soft contacts. i have soft ones. they are disposable (usually u wear them for a month, and then put in new ones.) Hard ones can actually cut your eye, so i would go for soft contacts. As long as you keep your eyes moist (you can use eye drops), contacts are no problem at all and you can barley tell you are wearing anything.

Good Luck!!

If it is hard for you, just don't wear them, but they are better than glasses. Most of them are soft, and you won't even notice they are there. Depending on what brand and type, it is not recommended that you sleep in them. I have gotten scrapes and apart of my eye-lens taken off from dried contacts. It doesn't hurt.. it just feels itchy and weird. I was afraid too before I started to use them, but now it's a piece of Dutch Chocolate Cake. Just keep them clean.

Contacts are fine if you don't want glasses. Can you wear them is up to your eye doctor and if you can take care of them on a regular basis. The disposable ones are the best, but you still need to take care of them more so than glasses.
