It is fastened by a couple of bolts that go through the porcellain bowl.

Get on your hands and knees and investigate the situation.

Sometimes the bolts have nuts that have to be unwound from below.

Sometimes there is a screw arrangement that works from above. In such a case there are covers that flip up to reveal the screw heads.

If the seat is really old, the hardware might be metal and rusted. That might require a hacksaw to remove.

You can also go to a store and examine a toilet seat to see if you can handle the installation.

But have a close look at your toilet. You might discover that you can handle the replacement job.

You know, dont your, that a threaded fastener when turned clockwise travels away from you and when turned counter-clockwise, it travels toward you?

Go to Home Depot. Get ann oval one if you have an oval one or a circle on if you have a circle one. They are all the same size you just have to match shape. If men use the toilet, get one that's U shaped as opposed to a complete circle. That space is so the penis does not touch the seat when men have to sit. So then you just take off the old one and put on the new one. I bet the box that the new seat comes in has instructions on it.

Go to Home Depot & purchase a new toilet seat -- should include hardware & instructions. All you need is a screwdriver. You can always ask an employee there for further instructions...
Oh & make sure you get the correct size seat to fit your toilet... measure it before you go shopping.

Use a flat head screwdriver to flip up the screw cover flaps where the seat attaches to the bowl. Then unscrew the two screws, lift off the old seat, and put on the new one. Replace the screws and push the screw cover flaps down.

They generally have two screws, which can be taken out with a flat-head screwdriver. Purchase another one and put the new one on the toilet, by screwing in the new seat with the same screwdriver. Voila, you have a fresh toilet seat.

All you have to do is buy the toilet seat at any hardware store/home depot/target and follow the instructions. I installed my first one a few months ago, and it was actually very simple. Good luck!

There are 2 back screws that fasten the seat to the bowl, unfasten them and take the seat to the place where you intend to buy your new seat from and make sure that it exactly fits the old one in style and dimensions.

Go to your local Walmart and buy a new one--it should give you instructions, but it is super simple--just unscrew the screw thingies that connect the seat to the bowl and put the new one on. The screw thingies might have a plastic cover on them--just pop that open.

Buy a new one & unscrew the two plastic bolts from under the toilet to replace it . . very easy & can be done without tools.. just reach under & turn them counter clockwise to loosen & the other way to tighten them. If all else fails ask a neighborhood kid to do it..
