Because the enemy and his army appeal to peoples' personal weaknesses and our selfish desires. The relationship suffers because we tend to become caught up in our own selves instead of getting caught up in Him and living like He wants us to (loving each other instead of trying to put everyone else down to get on top ourself)

I've read 45 answers to this question and the vast majority of the answers are from self directed ignorant people. Not to be insulting but why answer a question when you do not have a clue? I'll give you all a clue here, but I'm sure that 99.99% of the respondents will not pick up on it. When you buy a complex item such as a VCR, or a new computer do you at least take a look at the instructions before you tell everybody how it works? Did anybody get it? You are going through life telling people about GOD! and you have never even looked at the instruction book. The instruction BOOK is where the right answer is for this question, and I challenge those of you that entered some pretty lame answers to get one and read some of it for a few days before answering any more questions about GOD. It's a best seller you may have heard of it, it's called the BIBLE!
PS. Don't judge GOD by his still imperfect followers.

Because man always wants to have his own way and not listen to anyone else. Always has, always will.
And the "can't see God, so He doesn't exist" argument is flimsy at best and won't work.
Using that same logic, look at this example:
1. Can't see your mind.
2. Can't feel your mind.
3. Can't hear your mind.
4. Can't taste your mind.
ergo: Your mind doesn't exist.
Sorry, that argument doesn't hold water, does it?
Here's some food for thought:
All languages have to originate with a conscious mind. A mind had to create that language. Scientists agree that our own DNA has its own language. DNA is not just a molecule – it is a coding system with a language & alphabet, and contains a message. Who wrote that code/message? Someone had to. It had to originate from some mind somewhere. But whose?
1) DNA is not just a molecule – it is a coding system with a language & alphabet, and contains a message
2) All languages, codes and messages come from a mind
3) Therefore DNA was designed by a Mind
IV. What is information? What Makes a Message?
1) Symbolically represents something other than itself (i.e. a book is more than paper and ink)
2) Requires a speaker (“transmitter”) and a listener (“receiver”)
3) Contains the elements of language – alphabet, syntax, meaning and intent.
Who wrote the DNA code? There has to be a Supreme Intelligence to write such a complex language.

This is a very good question. I am glad you asked it. There are two Bible passages from which we get can the answer.
First, John 6:44 says, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day." Our first insight is that the Father must initialize salvation by compelling the sinner to Himself. The word "draw" does not mean entice but it used elsewhere in the Bible and translated as "drag". It is also used extra-Biblically meaning to draw water from a well, which does not mean enticing water out of a well.
Second, Romans 8:6-8, "For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God." These verses reveal that the unsaved person is not able to subject themselves to the law of God nor please God in any way.
That should answer why only a few come to know God. If your question is why is it difficult to obey God then Romans 7:14-25 is a good answer. We find that within ourselves is a war between our flesh and our spirit which was made alive when we accepted Jesus as our Master and Savior.

It requires a leap of faith. Plus, for so long so many have stated that the bible is a litteral document and not example but then science comes along and shows alternate explainations for things. Then when you look back through history at the amount of evil that has been done by mankind in the name of religion. It kind of makes it harder to believe in a loving and caring God.
Now I do believe in God but I had to come to my own conclusion about many of these things.
For me there are things out there that show the existance of God.
Second, I have accepted the idea that the bible may be Gods word but that it may not be meant as a litteral document and may be much more of a work of stories giving examples rather than stating fact.
Third, when it comes to the evil that men do, I do not believe this is inspired by God or Religion but by men who have decided to ignore the correct teachings of religion and God but who have an understanding that acting in the name of Religion gives them an edge. But in the end I believe God will also give them what they deserve.
So those are my thoughts.

If people aren't indoctrinated to the concept of a god, when they are very young and learning (acquiring their programing) they can not accept the concept as anything but a mental/imaginary construct.
If one gets through their early years without an unnatural fear of spirits or a spiritual existence it becomes impossible for them put any real 'faith' or concern in such concepts. "Knowing" that such concepts are only imaginary it become impossible to see them as real. What is the point of believing "in" something that is not real?
If there is some aspect of having a religion that is beneficial, find and identify that aspect and develop and use it, just leave out the imaginary part which is likely to do nothing but cause problems.

Because man is inherently evil. People have no trouble at all being mean or bad- it's not something they have to learn....just feel. Being good requires discipline, a conscience and restraint. Some people view God as a spoiler. They want to party and get drunk, have elicit sex or do drugs. Since God, from their point of view, frowns upon these activities, they would rather ignore Him than to get to know Him. Without God "in the way" they are free to do whatever they want. It's unfortunate because I don't think this world would be as bad off as it is if everyone believed in a power higher than themselves. But as we've seen, folks keep trying to push God out of all aspects of public life.....as if they could keep God out of what He created.
Have a great day and God bless!

Many are taught that it is on faith alone that a relationship with God will exist. Faith in something you can't see and touch seems a good reason why many don't converse or relate with God. How long can you believe in Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny. You can see them! We are lied to as children and perhaps then conditioned to have less faith or beliefs as adults. I have come across the religion of Novus Spiritus, much like gonsticism, and they give you knowledge to base your beliefs on rather than just asking you to have faith, or just believe. My relationship with God is so much more now than what it was before. I hope many other seek knowledge rather than just faith alone. It's so much easier that way.

People cannot believe in what cannot be seen. I believe God is someone/something people to turn to when there is no other answer or help. There is too much mockery of faith - images in plants, food, dirt spots; scientific explanations for odd ocurrences, etc. If you feel there is a higher power, it is not for anyone else to dispute. Without it, some people would give up.
Faith and hope! At some point everyone asks not to be struck down by lightening for something they said or did!!

I believe that lack of self esteem is also responsible for inability to have a relationship with a higher power. When we love ourselves and accept our shortcomings, we know we were created by a higher power (otherwise how did we get the confidence except from having faith in a higher power) and it's easier to believe in what is an abstract concept. Some people don't want to be "responsible" for following laws and moral and ethical expectations, much less a higher power we can't "see." So they pretend there's no such power. People who don't believe in God often don't believe in the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, leprechauns, elves, fairies, etc. We who are balanced and recognize we have parent, adult, and child in us, more easily believe in a diety such as God. People who believe in God glow with His love, share things He has helped them get, have healthy relationships with people and are emotionally healthy, and are great role models for children and their peers. When we don't have a faith to believe in, how do we function and get through stressful times, how are we able to bless other people, and how can we do all the things expected of us today? Many people don't believe in God due to their environment and influences of their childhoods, so until they can get away from home, it's difficult for them to form their own opinions.

It all boils down to faith. You have to believe in something there is no tangible proof of. There is also no tangible proof that there isn't a god. The reason people who do believe have issues is because there are no real guidelines to go by. You have to do the best you can and there is no one along the way to let you know if you are doing good or bad.
