It is a bad idea to provide Jihadists with campaign propoganda. Osama and many of the AQ faithful have accused the US of leading a crusade against Islam. By calling the GWOT a crusade, Mr. Bush unwittingly validates these claims. If Muslims around the world feel they are being persecuted or hunted down in a holy war, they will unite with extremists for their own survival. I think a better choice of words would help alleviate the confusion, and make it more difficult for the Jihadists to snatch recruiting posters from the headlines of western newspapers.

This is a bad idea... Too many people relate the statement to the actually crusades. The anti religious and the anti American far left are too stupid to understand the difference of comparison. Technically it is a crusade (in a way) but for his own good he shouldn't have used the term.

there have been many covert causes for the "GWOT", and we are slowly getting to comprehend those real secret debates as investigations run their courses. in the course of the Bush years, an array of books were revealed that divulged the actual casus belli, which selection from political applications to grease to revenge to American hegemony. The Bush administration (with the tips of Bush's mind, Rove) knew that a conflict-time president may have an a lot less demanding marketing campaign even as coupled with unbridled worry strategies. Afghanistan (the position 9/11 changed into planned) turned right into a facile objective. After dismantling the Taliban (yet not for lengthy), Bush/Cheney set their sights on Saddam (who had no wmds connection to 9/11-even Cheney has rewritten his own heritage). "The darkish area" by using Jane Mayer is an awesome position to delve into the justifications for Iraq and its disastrous aftermath. "Fiasco" by using Thomas Ricks is a ought to study. "Imperial existence in the Emerald city" by using Rajiv Chandrasekaran takes a severe seem at civilian administration of the yank reconstruction in Iraq.

Bad idea. The world's already about to burst due to religious tension, and the head of the world's largest secular democracy goes on record saying stuff like this.

very bad choice of words. the islamist think back to the actual crusades in the middle ages and they remember how they got their a~s's kicked. They never get over things and many of them still want revenge even thou they were n't alive at the time.

There are many of them that say: "Once a land is owned by a muslim, it is muslim forever."

Just another example of our IDIOT president.

BUSH HAS BEEN EXPOSED AS BEING BEHIND THE 9/11 ATTACKS. HE EVEN LEFT HIS OWN WIFE BEHIND IN WASHINGTON DC FOR TWO DAYS, KNOWING THAT THERE WAS GOING TO BE AN ATTACK.

THIS PHONY "WAR" ON TERROR HAS BEEN THEIR WAY OF KEEPING THE TRUTH FROM THE PEOPLE.

BUT EVERYDAY, MORE AND MORE FOLKS ARE WAKING UP.

Crusade. Jihad. It invokes that it is now related to religion and that will cause nothing but problems.

Are we after them because they are terrorists or because they are Muslim Terrorists?

That is a can of worms you don't want to open.
