There were actually about 8 DeLoreans that were used for the BTTF trilogy. Most of them ended up scrapped, and one was destroyed in the end of part 3. Yes they used a real DeLorean for that scene :( Although I have heard that the remaining parts were put back together as best as they could be and are on display somewhere. (sorry, not sure where) The DeLorean on display in orlando was not an original car from the film, it is a replica built afterwards. There were also some full scale models that were used for the films. And there also a bunch of replicas built by George Barris (who DID NOT design the time machine).
As for where the originals are, those that are still around are probably rotting away in Universal's lot. :(

Don't quote me on this but;I heard it was Italian made by Delorean Motors Company that's why it has the big DMC on the front grill. Now here's the shocker part the company was shutdown after Delorean was busted for cocaine. This was during the eighties. Also the car only came in the metallic color .

They used many DMC-12s in BTTF from complete models to just the cab (for inside shots). There are a few that can be seen at Universal Studios. The rest have been crated up and are in storage somewhere on the Universal lot.
If you’re lucky you may see a standard production DMC-12 buzzing down the highway, but after 25 years many have met their untimely demise. There are only a handful left that are in pristine condition.

you mean the actual car or just the model?
Man, is it that hard to put a little detail about the question in there?
