The man goes by several different names and spellings, however the F.B.I. does not list Osama as one of his aliases.
Usama Bin Laden, Aliases include, but are not limited to,
Usama Bin Muhammad Bin Ladin, Shaykh Usama Bin Ladin,
The Prince, The Emir, Abu Abdallah, Mujahid Shaykh, Hajj, and
The Director.

It's the way the alphabets match up. The vowels are different. Common spelling is with an O. Some small distinctions are a bigger deal. Sadam's name is pronounces Sod om, but Bush Sr. said sad-am, which means garbage. After learning that he kept saying it that way as a dig.

Because it's a translation from a completely different alphabet that doesn't line up exactly with the one we use.
