Ok this is a really dumb question. I was at a K-mart and we were looking for pool supplies when I spy these cards I collect on top of some pool stuff. The cards were unwrapped (the wrapper was nowhere to be found) and somebody had left only 6 of the cards and taken all the rarer ones. The 6 that remained I didn't have in my collection. So I take them and my mom is like GRAAAHH YOU'RE SHOP LIFTING. If you were me would you have taken them? If I did would that be stealing? My reason is they couldn't have sold them and probably didnt know they existed. I didn't take them though because I didn't feel with putting up with the wrath of mom.

You know it's wrong because of the fact that you didn't take them. you had a choice, despite what your mom said. And you learn stuff from your parents, so pretty much if your mom is saying no, you should listen. And you knew it was wrong anyways, even if you didn't want to be wrong. sorry! but it is stealing. plus, in response to the person who said tell them you found them like that and you'll pay the difference, they will probably be thinking that your the one who stole the other ones and its not such a good idea.

Your mom is right. If you wanted the cards, you should have bought a pack. I would not take them. I think it is stealing. Your reason doesn't excuse stealing. You should have turned them in to customer service. There's a possibility they would have let you keep them...legitimately. But that is the right thing to do. Think of it this way...someone steals your wallet and takes the valuable things (money) out. Then leaves it with your library card and pictures and credit cards lying around wal-mart. Do you think the next person who comes along could take it just because someone else already did? Or would you rather they return the rest of the wallet to you? Now put wal-mart in that same place, it's the same story.

The cards still belonged to the store. Even though "damaged" - cards missing, that doesn't make them yours to take. If I was in your situation, I would have asked to talk to a store supervisor. If you told him what happened and what you found, you probably would have a good chance of him giving you the cards because they were not complete (or maybe pay a small price for the remaining cards). This would have given you a good lesson in distinguishing right from wrong. Your Mom may have over-reacted to much - but she was right. Good luck.

Here comes the dilemma.

The store will just throw them away as they are loose.

Perhaps if you split the difference and said that you found them open but you really need these cards and you would pay a pro-rated difference.

the store might even have let you have them, as it's more work for them.

This is that gray area that drives people crazy as far as morality goes.

I wouldnt have, i would have taken them to the till with me and bought them with my other bits if i wanted them or say 'yea i found these lying about' But then again im more moral than most. Yes it is still theft. You are taking something out of the owners possession without their permission.

It IS stealing, however you look at it. It may even have been shoplifting, since you did not know where the cards came from.

It is never right to steal. As a way of life, I recommend being as honest as possible, and to be scrupulous concerning things that aren't your own.

if u had handed them up,then the store might have
thought u stole them in the first place.then what would
your mum have thought. u could have done was
ask to see the store camera to prove that it was not u that
took them in the first place
imagine thew embarrassment.
Not Worth the hassle
