My doctor is out of town this month & my son is eating rice cereal, drinking soy formula, & has been introduced to carrots, sweet potatoes, & green beans. I'm not sure of how much of each he should be eating or drinking, if somebody could give me an example (including measurements if possible) I'd very much appriciate it! thanks!

My son has already been to the pediatrician a couple weeks ago & she said that he was ready to try solids. I've read in numerous books & magazines (What To Expect: The First Year as an example) that you should begin solid feedings between 4-6 months. So I began at four. He was developmentally ready and very eager. He has no digestive problems since he's been on solids (it's actually easier for him to have a bowel movement) and he is doing well on swallowing and holding the spoon as I feed him. The hospital and his pediatrician agreed that he is on a 6-7 month level (standing on his own [holding things like a table], rolling all the way over, sitting on his own, grabbing his toys off the floor, etc) so he was ready to eat soldis. I am just beginning & want him to have a proper diet with not too much vegetables or rice cereal or whatever.

This is for all the people that are telling you not to give your baby solid food. I also had my four month old at his doctor visit getting shots and was told it was ok to start him on vegetables if he wanted them. he is now six months old and has done fine since eating jar food. I started him out eating how ever much he wanted. Sometimes it was just a few spoonfuls, as a little time pased it became a full jar. Use your judgement. I say if he is hungry feed him. I am the mother of four and all of my children were eating jar food before 6 or 7 months of age and all turned out fine. As a matter of fact they all ate some sort of table food by a year old. good luck to you and your baby.

he'll eat about 9-10 jars of baby food a day (small ones.) if he eats it, give it to him! A small jar of baby food is about 1/3 to 1/4 cup of baby food. Give him one and three quarters cup of watered down apple juice. a day at the most, but the less the better. He should tak a three ounce bottle with every meal too! A hand full of those new gerber baby puffs banana flavored are good, they dissolve in his mouth, abd give him a treat once in a while- buy puff corn (hulless popcorn) to eat! Yumm!

When he's full, you'll know. He'll either start to spit it out or start fussing - both signals that he's full. He may eat a 1/2 jar of veggies, maybe 3/4's of a jar at one time and probably drink less formula afterward. Measurements aren't really a good guide, you have to learn to recognize your baby's signs that he's full.

You don't want to hear the *real* answer. A baby under the age of 6 months old should *not* be getting anything but breastfeeding (or formula).

You're not suppose to be feeding him this stuff, this early. Any digestive problems he has later in life are your fault.

Your baby should still be getting most of his calories from his formula. At this stage the food is just for fun and practice for later.
