Some women have periods the whole time they are pregnant. I did with my second pregnancy, none with my forth or fifth. Some women spot with implantation, that's normal and isn't cause for concern. You can spot anytime during your pregnancy. Usually it is caused by irritation to the cervix, or rupture of a capillary in either the vagina or cervix. If there is cramping, bright red blood or any other pain, then you need to call a doctor. Any spotting during your pregnancy should be reported to your doctor, even if it stops on it's own.

No, you can't get a traditional "period". You can get implantation bleeding that might be confused with a period. You can also have some early pregnancy spotting. But a true period is the uterus sheding it's lining each month to clean out and begin a new cycle. When you are pregnant, this doesn't happen, it's just not possible.

Most docs don't like to see any bleeding during your pregnancy, but some might happen anyway. Usually bleeding later on in pregnancy is a bad sign and can mean there are problems. I was told by my doc to call right away if I see any blood at all.

With my first baby, I had my period for the first 4 months like clockwork, which is weird since i have never been regular. With my second child I experienced implantation bleeding, but it only lasted for about 2 days, and was just a tiny bit. Lots of women in my family have periods while pregnant. My grandmother had her period the whole time with three of her kids. Implantation bleeding is different, you should google it for an exact description, or try webmd.

They call it a "period" because it's actual bleeding - similar to a period. If there is a pregnancy involved that it is not a "period" so to speak...it's probably implantation bleeding. Implantaion bleeding should only be light and spotty...not full blown bleeding like a period...if that were the case then I would say it's probably a miscarriage.....It's just people choosing one definition for bleeding and assuming that it is the same definition for all.

women do not actually get their full on period when they are pregnant....or at least, they shouldn't.
your period is the shedding of the uterine lining and this does not work with pregnancy. how can you shed your uterine lining when you have a baby in there???
so, some women experience spotting which can be normal during pregnancy, however, you should consult your dr if any bleeding occurs during a pregnancy.

take care.

It is possible. Some women have bleeding when they are pregnant and still be totally healthy. However, the best course of action is for her to see her doctor, of course.

When I posed a similar question I was told that a normal cycle is apparently not all that unusual in pregnancy. One woman swore that her sister continued to cycle through all five of her pregnancies and her children were just fine. It just goes to show that a woman's body is not always prone to following rules.
I hope this helped. GoodLuck!!
