You don't have to answer every single question on here, but let me set up the criteria here:

I'm moving to the Frankfort-Lexington area. Since I'll be close to Lexington (of course) as well as Louisville, what are the sights to see? Parks? Natural beauty? Attractions? Good restaurants? How is the traffic? How are the people? Which city would you prefer more? What's the best (and worst) thing about these cities?

I live in the South now; I'm not trying to accuse KY of being "yankee," but it's a little more north than any place I've lived, so I don't know if it'll be a culture shock compared to 'Bama and Mississippi. Thanks!

I'm used to friendly people, I hope KY is the same way.

I have lived in Louisville, KY all my life 27 years. The traffic isn't all the bad, not even at rush hour. I would definatly check out waterfront park, Church Hill Downs (we are home to the Kentucky Derby), Thunder Over Louisville (during derby week), Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, and a whole lot of other places depending on your interest. In Louisville we have Six Flags Amusement Park which is pretty cool. I haven't been out on the club scene in a while I have 2 kids age 1 and 6.

The people in Kentucky are nice depending on where you go in the towns, some places the people are so stuck up and they turn their nose up at you and you aren't to their liking, but everyone else is pretty nice. We are home to Southern Hospitaility

kentucky is very friendly! Visit the horse park in lexington, you can always go to a UK game, louisville has the louisville slugger museum and it's a more attractive city than lexington. Cincinnati is only (depending how you drive) 45-60 minutes from Lexington and there's a whole lot to do there! I know the most about that area becuase it's where I live! You can see a bengals game, cincinnati reds game, Big concerts at riverbend and US Bank arena, and LABOR DAY YOU HAVE TO COME DOWN THAT WEEKEND FOR THE FIREWORKS! It's million dollar fireworks show that lasts for 30 minutes and it's AMAZING! It's an all day event and all of northern ky and cincy goes to see it!

THe Red river Gorge is a lot of fun too! I forgot about that!

You are not in for culture shock....we are not at all "yankee" and most of us are very friendly and helpful. I live about 30 minutes from Lexington and used to work there. The area is very beautiful with rolling hills and horse farms. Traffic is the same as anywhere else....gets backed up from time to time and especially at certain times of the day, but it's not too bad really. There are sites to see, like the Kentucky Horse Park. There's entertainment like a comedy club (Comedy Off Broadway), an opera house where they have shows and there are concerts at Rupp Arena. There is a minor league baseball team, the Lexington Legends and, of course, the KY Wildcats....GO BIG BLUE. There are several parks all around the area and there are events held at them like a Kite Fest and free family movies on Friday night. There are plenty of places to shop, eat, and be entertained. I hope you enjoy living in the bluegrass.

If you must choose Texas, remember that for the most part it's HOT, HOT, HOT. As a Texan I would strongly recommend Austin or the surrounding areas. Best job opportunities, best culture, but be prepared for the traffic. Many of the roads in Austin are being constructed/reconstructed at this time. Avoid the East Texas area at all costs, unless you like bigotry and humidity. I agree with your decision to avoid the DFW Metroplex ... it's become the very definition of urban sprawl, and crime is high. Where are we moving to when we leave Texas in a year? Portland, Oregon. The Pacific Northwest is unparallelled for culture, climate, beauty, and economics. And, not to downgrade your state, but Kentucky was not a place we considered for relocation. If you want materials to assist with a Texas relocation I can help you. Feel free to E-mail me.

Parts of ky are friendly--the parts around Cincinnati have a lot of pretenders and put ons.
