how do i get rid of aphids that are on my petunias, we also have a nest of birds on the plant.?

There's a product made by Bayer and it's called "Tree & Shrub Insect Control". The active ingredient contains; "Imidaclorpid" and it's VERY SAFE to animals and plants! You just simply mix it with water and then water it in around the roots of your ornamental plants. The directions included with the product are very easy to follow.

The solution is absorbed through the roots and it translocates up into the foilage protecting them from most of the sucking insects (except mites) that you find in the garden. It provides up to 12 months of control.

I've used it on a number of ornamental plants last summer and I haven't spotted any aphids so far this year!

NOTE: The product doesn't act right away but within 2 weeks after application, you'll notice it working. Just be patient.

Diatomaceous Earth will kill anything with an exoskeleton, beetles, ants, roaches, aphids, white flies, mites, pretty much all you basic bugs. Best of all it will not harm humans or pets or your plants.

Get it here, their's is food grade, which is the only kind you want. If you find it at a local garden center be certain that it is food grade, you do not want the other kind.

Get lady bugs from a growers supply place. You can also try to use a solution of regular dish soap and water to eradicate them, but this is less effective and takes multiple applications.

To apply the solution use a sprayer and/or dip the plant.

get rid of the birds nest, they aphids LOVE birds nests. and you can try spritzing the leaves with soapy water

lady bugs... find some lady bugs and put them around the plant..
they love to eat aphids

buy some ladybugs and sprinkle them on the aphids.
im not sure though if you can buy ladybugs this time of year.
