You're better off buying a new PCMCIA card, which plugs into in the flat rectangular slot that most people have no idea what it's for.

You can buy cards with a longer range and better signal strength ability.

Really good ones can range from $100 and up, but it will help you with your signal strength.

Just keep in mind that it might also be the router, for instance if your new laptop card has "Speed booster" (which is a Lynksis name) and your router doesn't it won't be any good, it won't improve anything.

Hope this helps!! Good luck!!

If your using a router, try changing channels on the router or access point. Make sure there are no wireless interference (e.g. cordless phones, unshielded speakers, etc...) that could be causing the problem. Try relocating your router/ap in an open area as high as possible.

You can call the router manufacturer for help in adjusting advance wireless settings or upgrading the firmware.

On your laptop, make sure any firewall or security software has been disabled. Try using the laptop in other wireless hotspots to isolate if its a problem with your laptop or the access point.

If you've tried changing channels and ruled out that its a problem with the laptop - you can either buy a high gain antenna or range expander or repeater.

You should have a repeater, or an expander. It is set up half way between your router, and the receiving laptop, or desktop. Take a look at one here-->
