Do overrated players have the most hits in the major leagues since 1996? And have four World Series rings? And carry a .315 career batting average? And play gold-glove defense? And get their 2,000th career hit before they turn 33? And win the World Series MVP award? I could go on and on.

NO HE IS NOT OVERRATED

He is definitely overrated, but he's not nearly as overrated as Kerry Wood.

If you check out similarity scores, the player Jeter is most similar to in the history of the game is Ray Durham. Jeter is good (5 of his 10 most similar players are in the Hall of Fame) but not as great as billed. As for the people saying best shortstop of all time, he's not the best shortstop on his team. A-Rod moved to third, but he's better than Jeter.

Now look at Kerry Wood, who has been hyped as the next Roger Clemens. He's had a few great games, but his career is a major disappointment.

In seven seasons, Wood has only 70 wins and 54 losses. Look at his 10 most similar pitchers: Dave Boswell, Steve Busby, Jim Nash, Vern Bickford, Britt Burns, David Palmer, Jack Harshman, Pat Zachry, Pat Dobson and Orlando Hernandez. No Roger Clemens. No Hall of Famers at all.

So again, Jeter is overrated but very good. Wood is just plain overrated.

Overrated?? I am a die hard Mets fan and don't like the Yankees too much but I have to give credit where credit is due. Jeter is a terrific all around ball player. He hits for average and hits in the clutch. He always gives 100% whenever he take the field. And he is a leader worthy of the Yankee 'C'.

Four World Series rings in his first five years in the Major Leagues.
One of the most consistent players in all of baseball.
Among the greatest captains of the Yankee franchise (and that's some exclusive company).
Currently batting .343 (Third in the A.L.) with 48 RBI and 55 Runs.

Anyone who calls Jeter overrated is only jealous, as demonstrated by a poll of players a few months ago.

No. Alex Rodriguez is.

I remember the hype 40 years ago about a Mets centerfield prospect named Don Bosch. He was touted as better than Mickey Mantle and hailed as the next DiMaggio.

Bosch had a sense of humor, though. His reply was: "Which DiMaggio? Vince?" (Though not as famous as his younger brothers Joe and Dom, Vince played in the National League, and was a perennial home run leader, an excellent fielder and a two-time All-Star. He is also famous for striking out a lot.)

Bosch was not as good as even Vince DiMaggio, however, and played parts of four seasons with the Pirates, Mets and Expos, hitting .226 in only 318 at-bats over 146 games. A year after his last major-league game he was traded to the Astros for Mike Marshall (what was Houston thinking?) but he never got out of the minors again.

Yeah, he is overrated. He is just lucky that he got on the Yankees at the right time. Sure he's good, but you don't see him going out and making HUGE plays ALL the time. I would say he is withing the Top 10 greatest SS of all time, and within the Top 5 greatest SS currently playing. Have you seen the A's SS? He's just as good, if not better.

I wouldn't say Derek is overrated,he just happened to come along on the right team at the right time..His stats are just as good as anybody else playing shortstop in baseball. I think people think badly of him because he plays on the Yankees and he had so much success early in his career.

Check his lifetime stats and compare them against some of those other clowns that are out there and you will find Mr. Jeter is one of the best to play the game.
