How long does data last (data retention) on a 128mb flash drive, without being plugged in - just left in a box

Additional Details

Well, answers like "forever" aren't much use. I understand it would last years and years, but this is going to be for a time capsule (perhaps 100 years). Would USB flash last that long?

It is supposed to be good for at least 10 years - beyond that we don't know. This is probably not good for a time capsule. You might also want to consider that technology will be jumping ahead that entire time and there may not be anything capable of reading a flash drive by then (when was the last time you used a 5 1/4 floppy, let alone the old 8" floppy?).

I hate to say it but the memory would stay on the card 'forever'. It's non-volatile memory which means unless something touches it or erases it it will last 'forever'. Other sources such as moisture or magnetism might take some effect in data loss, but I'm sure the capsule will be sealed. Also you have to wonder if in a hundred years there will be a reader to read the flash card, so I'd include whatever adapter/reader it may require. I'm sure computers will be around but who knows about flash memory that big!
