Here are a few facts. The moon is moving away from the the earth at an inch a year. The sun is getting closer to the earth at a lesser rate nevertheless it is getting closer. That is why it has been hotter on earth than it has been for the last 2,000 years. By the way when the last Tsunami that hit indonisia, the earthquake that caused it knocked the earth of it's axis slightly which may have large ramifications to the earths climate. This year the polar caps have begun melting which is not a good sign. Their are alot of natural endings to the earth.

I think we can learn a lot from history, and certain individuals have been predicting the end of the world at the turn of each century and various dates throughout for at least the last 200 years. It happened when we turned from 1899 to 1900, it happened again when 1999 became 2000.
I will not, however, be getting my affairs in order at any point on or around the Winter Solstice (December 21st), 2012. Calendars are inconsistent, and the Mayans are no exception. Their December 21st could actually be November 30th. We don't know. The Christian calendar is different from Pagan calendars, so we were incorrect to start with.
Some day, the world will undoubtedly end. How and when that will happen is something that, I hope, no one ever correctly determines. I personally do not want to know. I'd rather just live my life to the fullest every day, and if I don't wake up tomorrow then so be it!

The world will end. I don't know whether it will be when the Mayans said but the bible says that the will be destroyed by some kind of disaster other than a flood then it will be remade and be even better than it is today. I believe this because every other prediction in the bible has come true. For example in the bible it predicts that in the "end times" there will be an increase in natural disasters. If you look at the last couple of years there has been More natural disasters and they have been a lot more damaging to the earth and people. Before we would have a major natural disaster occasionally but now we are just waiting for the next to hit.

The Mayan calendar technically doesn't "end" on 12.21.12, it actually "resarts". On 12.21.12 we will enter the next "World Age". Since the Mayans had extensive documentation (murals, carvings, etc.) of the turning of the last world age, and presumably the world did not end, we can assume that the world will not end on 12.21.12, or at least not withstanding the world "as we know it". Each age is 5125 years according to our calendar, which may suggest that the Mayans were around for at least 10,000 years. If we overlay this calendar with our modern westernized history, 10,000 years ago was about the time of the end of the glaciers and the re-colonizing of lands previously too cold to inhabit such as North America and northern Europe. If we look at the last transition to the current world age, it coincides with some kind of event that burned most of the planet and cause a mini extinction around 3800 BC. A meteor impact is the most likely culprit from a scientific perspective, but historical texts such as the Bible suggest God may have had a hand in it.
If we put these point of view together, it may be possible that the Maya had expert knowledge of celestial events, perhaps even a cometary or other heavenly body that orbits near to earth every 5125 years, and on each trip brings debris that hits the earth causing damage. This would also fit with their documentation of the returning and presence of the god Bolon Yokte K’u during each changing of the world age.
If there is a significant object coming our way that we don't know about on a 5125 year orbit, it will probably be coming pretty fast and not show up in any of our technology, radar, telescopes, etc., until a couple years before 12.21.12 - if that.
Since the earth is covered with 70% water, I wouldn't invest in any beachfront property until after the beginning of the next world age. ;-)

Yes the world will come to an end,
someday, but all life will cease before
then. Global Warming will see to that.
.
The main thing everyone can do to
Reverse Global Warming is to Plant
Trees. Lots of them. All over.
Also, Clear Cutting and Burning of
Forests must be stopped immediately.
Replanting of forests must be started
immediately.
Bring back the Civilian Conservation Corp.
that fought forest fires back in FDR days.
They also replanted forests. Operate it in
the same way as back then. Teen agers
signed up and They were allowed a part
of their wages for themselves and the rest
was sent home for the families. This would
also keep kids off the streets and teach them
responsibility.
If "We" must cut trees, then we must go
back to Selective Cutting and replant new
trees immediately.
Stopping auto emissions is a big help with
the CO2 problem, but it doesn't emit the
Oxygen needed to keep a Chemical Ballance
in our Atmosphere, such as Trees do.
Trees absorb CO2 and emit Oxygen.
Animal life exists because of the Oxygen
produced by trees.
Also, using food to produce Ethanol is not
a good idea. This will just disrupt the "Food
Chain".
Right on SL SF: Everyone should see the
movie, "An Inconvenient Truth", or read the
book by the same name.
I may be wrong, but not far from it.

Before we can say that the world has an end we need to understand how the world began.
On that note we have had a whole slew of evolutionary assumptions and theories. However no real Understanding how the world and everything in it was assembled.
So the enigma is not how there is an end to the world but how it really began.
As far as the mayans saying that the world will end 4 days before Christmas, is a guess as good as anyone else.

Human centered studies fail to look at the world through the eyes of geologic realities. We've existed to date as human culture for about 10,000 - 15,000 years. the Cosmic blink of an eye.
Will earth change dramatically again as it has over the last 4.6 billion years? yes, will it be of human cause? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Egocentric small minded people tend to think because we have awareness we have control. Fact is contrary to the junk science schizophrenic rantings of Al Gore, the earth's climate changes but it is has been doing so on 200,000 year cycles for a long time.. We are in an interglacial period, solar activity ebbs and flows according to the earths proximity in the solar orbital cycles.
Will humans cease to exist? Some day yes, in all likelihood humans will be gone either through attrition or cateclysm. Will it be in our lifetime? While I am no wagering man, I'd doubt humans will disappear from this planet anytime soon.
prophecies and predictions have been ways for individuals to control behavior on a massive scale. Tell people the earth is ending tomorrow and they have to believe in Allah, Jesus, or Buddha or they suffer eternal damnation and you have behavioral controls.
Easy does it. If the earth does go Tango Uniform it's more likely to happen after a long existence in about 15 billion years when the sun turns into a Super Red Giant. By then humans will be the proverbial mouse dropping in an ocean of grains of rice.

I don't think the "world" will end, however, I do believe life as we know it will end. I do not think anyone now or in past knows what date the end will be. If you believe what the Bible tells us, no one will ever know when the end will be. But yes, there will b an end of life. Look back at history, the polar shift, which happened millions of years ago. That shift probably killed the dinosaurs and all life. I believe that a polar shift will happen again and plays a significant role in "Global Warming". If you don't believe what the Bible says, may God bless you and change your mind before the end arrives!

Yea, i do beleive the world will end, but not because the mayans said so. Gobal warming is so close to killing us, the world has been dieing for a long while. And alot of people are getting dieases, and i think if more and more people start using drugs then maybe alot more people will die or kill themselves. And if Iran does make that big bomb whatever it is, and kill us, then they might start killing the world, and dooms day will come. This is just mainly what i personally think though.
