This is such a good question! =) So many of my friends do that. I have tried to tell them it's "you're" not "your," but I guess old habits die hard.
I guess people either a) don't know how to properly use those two words; b) are too lazy, like you said; and/or c) just don't care what they type.
My goodness, it's so annoying sometimes!!!

You're probably right on both counts. Some (probably most) are grammatically uninformed or uneducated and others may be simply lazy. Arguing for a typo is a bit problematic.

People just don't want to take the extra 3 seconds to put the apostrophe "r" "e". It's just like when people put prepositions at the end of a sentence.
For Example:
Where is Sally at? corrected to: Where is Sally?
What did he buy that for? corrected to: Why did he buy that?

It is probably a bit of both. Not many of us here are profesional typsits and many also got that part confused in grammar class. but I know what you're saying because it irritates me too

They don't know the difference because they never read books as a child. They only say and write what they actually hear. Everyone should read more, and then they would know how to spell.

No, it's because they do not truly know the difference. Same thing with who's and whose; their, there, and they're; and a lot of other simmilar posessives.
