First, make a pile of things you don't want packed and stick them somewhere they'll not get messed with, like your car. Make sure to keep out a knife and a couple towels! Before the moving day, put your nesting need to good use and spring clean out places you've not touched in years. Get rid of the junk you no longer need so it doesn't move with you. Plan plenty of time for the actual drive so its fun instead of a chore. Clean things like the bathtub and stove a week before the move so its not a last minute rush. If you are moving yourself and going straight from one home to the next, you might want your microwave in your trunk. It will save money on fast food but give you some cheap meal options that first week when you are tired and busy. And I know it sounds silly but...when packing and unpacking, do it barefoot. Then when your feet start to hurt, put your sneakers on. Somehow is always works for me and I get more done that way. Otherwise, get a few last pictures of moving out and a few of moving in, just to remember it all.

If you can afford it, your best bet would be a professional mover. They can pack all of your things and do all of the lifting for you.
If not, then pack in medium sized boxes. Keep in mind that books, plates and glasses are really heavy.
Label all the boxes. Trust me from experience, it will save your sanity later when you go to unpack.
For paper to wrap breakables, check with your local newspaper. Newspapers will often give the end rolls of paper away for free and it works great for wrapping dishes and other breakables.
Book stores like Borders and Barnes and Noble have perfect sized boxes for packing if you can get them before they crush them.
Keep your towels and blankets out. wrap them around furniture as you are loading the truck. This will keep them from banging into each other and gouching and scratching up the furniture.
Get help to move. Call your friends and bribe them with food.
When loading the truck, load all the boxes first. Stack them all the way up as tightly as possible. Use your mattress or large dresser, etc. to hold them in place.
Keep in mind, the back of the moving truck will bouce and shak a lot.
Good luck on your move.

I would suggest starting to pack in advance. Pack things that you know aren't needed. It'll be less of a hassle when the day to move gets there.

hire a moving compnay to do everything , they will pack load the truck and drive it to your destination , then will unload the truck
or you can get a moving truck then get local movers to load it , usuall about 90 an hour , then drive to your sestination yourself then hire local movers to unpack the truck
