Research shows most babies take their first steps sometime between 9 and 12 months and are walking well by the time they're 14 or 15 months old. Don't worry if your child takes a little longer, though. Many perfectly normal children don't walk until they're 16 or 17 months old.

Good Age For Babies To Start Walking Is After 9 Months

Every age is a good age. Babies walk when they're ready. And, yes, some are ready at 9 months old. Average age when a baby starts walking is 9 to 17 months (see sources section below). But some are a little earlier or later.

I have 2 children that walked at 9 months, but most walk closer to 1 year. It just depends on the child.

Babies will start walking when they are ready. Some do it a lot younger than others. My nephew started walking at like 13-14 months, but his cousin started at 9 months. You can always help them gain leg strength by helping them stand up, but he/she probably won't take off until he/she is good and ready.

They walk when they are ready. Some kids start early and some don't walk until they are 16 to 18 months old. My son walked at 7 months, my daughter didn't until she was 16 months. All kids are different. Both of my kids are perfectly healthy and active.

My daughters walked at just after 12 months. They took their first steps earlier than that, but they figured it out after their first birthday. (Actually, I think when they saw another 1 year old walking they got with the program!)

There is research that says that crawling is important for coordination and (right/left) brain development and that you should let your children pick their own time to start walking.

Walking is cool, but once they start, you've got to learn a whole new set of parenting skills. Walking leads to skinned knees and things. All part of growing up, but applying that first band-aid can be heart wrenching.

Not at all. If they are ready, let them do it. My first boy started walking at 9 months, my second boy started walking at 13 months. It depends on the child.
