I don't believe in superstitions, so I guess the only time a cat following you would be bad luckj, would be when its a D8 Cat with a sleeping operator and yer gonna git run over!! Or if it's a large, hungry jungle cat..

The actual superstition is that its bad luck when a black cat crosses your path.
I had a black cat for 14+ years and he was awesome.

all the time! if you cross the road and they follow you, they are road kill! if you go to close a dog and the cat follows you, it's lunch! if you dont want a cat and it follows you home, you can never get it to go away!

If it's a strange cat and you think it might want to hurt you. Check your purse to see if you have pepper-spray for when the cat attacks you.

i have two black cats, and they walk by me plenty. i don't have bad luck. curse the superstitions, its not true.
