How to use mysql with php?

Question

I have installed WAMP and Im using phpExpertEditor. So, I can run any php file, but my problem is that i cant use mysql, and when I'm using related codes, I'm getting Error!

Please help me, I think the problem is due to bad installation of mysql or it is not configured by php...

2- I checked but mysql was not there.
3- mysql is installed by WAMP (Windows Apache Mysql Php), but I havent edit setup files to make them known to each other.
4- how to edit these files (php.ini, my.cnf)
5- I have Windows XP, I got my WAMP from and I'm using Apache(which has been installed by WAMP)
6- Error which i get is:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in C:\Program Files\PHP Expert Editor\php3A.tmp on line 9

One thing to do would be to look at the services (Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services) to see if MySQL is listed and is started. Also make sure you completed the installation of MySQL and PHP by editing the setup files to make them known to each other. (php.ini, my.cnf)

However, your question does not have much information to go on, since you have not put in the error codes, or said what kind of Windows you are running (XP? 2003?), or where you got your WAMP from. Are you indeed using Apache or are you using IIS?
