The greatness of America has been challenged all over the world for centuries. Today, is no exception. It is the belief of varied nations that "America" has made of mess of things. It is only my opinion, of course that perhaps we do have our fingers in too many pies; but, as An American, I am behind our president in all respects and I am grateful to be able to speak my mind without fear of repercussion. However, it is also my thought that there should be a limit on government spendings and where the monies would be beneficial to humanity. I feel that the millions of tax dollars spent to launch the space shuttle as this time is misplaced. What happened to New Orleans, the homeless, the hungry of our own country. Charity begins at home (I have heard)and America is HOME. Maybe I am like John Lennon, Just a dreamer.

The problem with a cap on all spending is that emergencies (such as Katrina, 9/11, WARS) can cause mid-year shifts in budget. That leads to a lack of faith in government as services promised become retracted.

The problem as I see it is that FORESEEABLE expenditures are being left out of the budget, all tax money (and entra) is allocated, then MORE money is borrowed for "emergency" projects such as the war in Iraq. Who'd have thought we need to spend money there? Didn't see that coming...

The issue is not even the borrowing. It's the culture of dishonesty for political gain. Numbers are routinely ignored and/or brushed under the carpet. If Bush asked for what they realistically expected to spend in Iraq, backlash would be stronger. So they pretend they don't know they'll be spending money there and ask for it later, when the amount can be quoted separately from the total annual budget. As long as dishonesty isn't being called by the Democrats, Bush will get away with it.

There are important issues that will need to be addressed in 2008

1) Focus on Environment & Global Warming issues. Find ways to create jobs, create incentives for new technology, etc.

2) Lower "operating costs", Reduce National Debt ($8.4 Trillion), Reorganize Spending Priorities, Save for the future.

3) End war / occupation in Iraq. Refocus on the US internal strength. Rebuild, grow, educate, improve health care, etc.

we all feel the same way, we definelty do have our fingers in everything, but then again if we didn't most countries would starve without us. north korea is no exception here. perhaps the money for the space shuttle is being used wrongly, but we still have to explore space. that's part of security too. i think you have good ideas, but you have to look at the whole picture and the whole world too in order to see why things are this way.

A dreamer, you are, I'm afraid. It'll never happen.
Look, even with the so-called "fiscally responsible" Republicans running Congress and the White House, we went from a budget surplus (under Clinton) to a half-trillion (or more) deficit.
