Because it's fun. They play with different toys for different reasons. For example, they love to chase things because they're hunters in the wild.

Their nature is to hunt. They play with their prey for a while. I think it is to understand how it gets around. They are killers by nature. I have cats and they will play with anything that moves. Or does not move:)

you really wanna know why? Actually they are not "play" as we see it. they are trying to kill it. They see it as a something smaller, and the animal urge kicks in, kill it. Eat it. when they bat at it, they are trying to gore it.... however its very entertaning to use a laser pointer on the wall, in a dark room. you here the cat hit the wall in the dark. haha

Because cat eyes, are like when you watch a music video with dial-up, so when something moves it catches their attention.

they like to chase prey like wild cats and learn to hunt and play. its fun to watch them with a ball or string. try a milk ring.

because when they were born, their parents were poor and could not afford them. Now that they are grown up, they try to relive their childhood as a toyless kitten.
