If you're into football, think of it this way - a tennis game is like the penalty shootouts. The guy taking the penalty is expected to score, the pressure is on him to score the goal. The goalie is at a disadvantage and has to try and not let the guy score.

Most of the time, the penalty taker does score. Others (most of the time when it comes to England), the penalty taker misses altogether. Other times, the goalie makes a save.

In tennis, the person who serves the game is expected to win the game, much like the penalty taker is expected to score the goal. This is because he has the advantage of making that first shot and controlling the pace of that game. Sometimes the serving player screws up (much like England and their penalty kicks) and loses his service game without the other guy doing very much. Sometimes the other guy is so good that he wins the game.

When a person loses his own service game, he has lost a break. When a person wins a game he returns (the other person serves), he has won a break. A point in the game where the serving player loses a break if he was to lose that point is called a break point (ie: 30-40, the points for the player who is serving is always said first). If in a game, the returning player has a 2 point cushion over the serving player, and that the serving player would lose a break if he was to lose any of those points, the returning player would be said to have 2 break points (ie: 15-40).

A break point is when the person that is serving looses there game. It is usually that the person that serves wins the game. Lets say that the person that is serving has the score of 15, when there opponent has 40. If the non-serving opponent win the next point they win the game of there oppoment. That is a break. They "break" there opponents serves games.

A break point occurs when the opposing player is 1 point away from winning the game and 1 more point in the game than you have. (ie: 30-40) A double break point occurs when the opposing player has 2 more points than you in the game and is one point away from winning the game. (15-40).

A break point is when the person who is not serving scores the point. Fundamentally the server has the advantage.
