I have herd that our technology is increasing so rapidly that we will go from the littel we have now, to computers that will be as advanced as our own brain (not shure if thats good concirdering human error) by 2028. But the moral decay of our country, and the rest of the world, shows that humans are slipping into another dark age. What is the most probible outcome for us.

I believe we have already begun to stop progressing as a civilization and believe that the advancement of our technology counts as our own advancement.

People don't have to learn anything anymore... when you have a question or problem that needs to be resolved, just find it on the computer. The pursuit of knowledge has always been a hallmark of human advancement, now rather than possession of that knowledge merely having access to it via technology seems to placate curious minds.

(Yahoo Answers has simplified that because now people don;t have to choose between Google, Yahoo or Ask, the just put the quention on Answers and 20 people do the work for them.)

Personally, I think most of our tech advancements have changed the way we handle social interaction and have made us more complacent. If the day ever comes when our inventions can do everything we do better what will we occupy our times doing? It's so easy to shoot someone an e-mail or an IM nowadays that most people don't feel a need to go out with people anymore and actually have physical interaction with friends more than once every 3-4 months. I hear talk of pills that will allow you to basically have a great body without having to workout. What will that do for people? I can see people gorging themselves on food already because they know they only have to pop a pill later and they won't gain weight. They won't even need to actually go exercise to stay in shape. We are slowly becoming more and more bound by our technology.

your right the world would be about 500-800 years more advanced without the Dark Ages I constantly lament that fact but religion has nothing to do with it. Rather it was the power of the Christian church and the fact that they kept the masses ignorant and them in power. Just look at other places on earth during that time both China and the Middle East invented things like Algebra, the Compass, gunpowder, and Superior sailing equipment and much more. this was all done under Arabic Islam and Chinese Buddhism. So clearly it was not religion that held back science but rather Christianity and the Church

Technology and morals are two different things but they do link together in some instances. As we grow ever so advance we become to think that there is nothing beyond human knowledge and that there is no god, when we begin to think that, religion in all its form goes right out the window. Because morals are so closely linked to religion( lets face it most of todays moral value we're at some point derived from religion) when we assume that there is no god, then what sense is there to follow his rules. morals decay and we become the very things we we're trying not to be.

It depends on what definition of 'as advanced as human brains' you use. There are presently supercomputers that come very close to processing the same AMOUNT of data the human brain processes in a second. This does not mean that we have machines capable of thought or deductive reason, just simply very powerful machines that can process enourmous amounts of data.

I don't really see how technology can thrust us into a new dark age. It may 'dehumanize' us, but I don't see a 'dark age' as such

No. Infact, we are moving to an era of enlightenment. Morals NEED to decay. For society to advance socially it needs to progress to being an Ethical society, not a Moral one. There is a BIG difference. Also, it is the only way to get rid of the biggotry and hate that pervades society today.
