There is a formula but it is just false calculation. The amount of water you should drink depends on how much you lose through sweating and that depends on the temperature (note: NOT on the amount of sweat you notice!).

As a rule of thumb, you should drink at least 3 litres (about 6 pints) of liquid a day. This can be in any form, but it is unwise to take too much alcohol with it! In hot weather you should drink perhaps a litre more and you should also replace lost salt.

Simple answer the average human should drink 8 pints of water per day or at least 2 litres. If you drank 8oz of water as some have suggested you would be dead within a few days.

Current recommendations for water are 8, eight ounce glasses per day which would equal 64 ounces. This amount should be sufficient for most healthy persons who are not in a hot, humid environment or sweating from physical work or exercise and should drink more water, more often

I have read 6 8oz glasses but I have read other sources saying this might be a little much for your body as you are already getting water that is also in some of your food sources. Drink at least a couple of glasses/bottles per day. You can drink too much water and become bloated.

I drink 2 8once glasses of warm water in the morning and run a little and do 15 sit ups to get into my system and then, throughout the day, I drink about 4 oz when I don't go on bike rides (I drink about 3 litters when I get a good workout)

The eight glasses of water recommendation had no scientific basis and has been debunked recently. A public health nurse in the 1930s misinterpreted a scientific finding and the prescription kept credibility way longer than it should have.

Your water requirements depend on the level of your physical activity, the temperatures, your body weight and what you have recently eaten, to name a few.

Watching your urine color is a relable way to judge whether you are getting adequate hydration--light straw is good.

There is a test of pinching the skin on the back of your hand and seeing whether it rebounds back when released. One is seriously dehydrated if that test fails.

If it's hot or your doing somthing physicaly strenuous then drink more water, if not just drink water as opposed to anything else when you feel thirsty. Take all that 8 glasses a day advice with a grain of salt, we are all different and water as good as it is can come out to too much of a good thing.

The formula goes. Take your body weight and divide it in half and convert the number to onces. So if you weight 150lbs then you should drink 75 oz of water.
