We are moving from Miami, Fl. I wanted to know if Spartanburg or thereabouts is very boring. Will it be too big a culture shock? We are looking for a better place to raise our 1 year old daughter. How is the cost of living there? Better than Miami, I hope.

I've have lived in northern VA and northern IL before moving to Spartanburg in 1996 and I have to say I love upstate SC. New housing developments are poping up everywhere and the Greer, SC which is between Spartanburg and Greenville is growing fast. You also have Bowling Springs which is also a great area. Spartanburg has several parks big parks. Greenville has a great downtown and the Reedy River Falls Park and there is a new waterpark in Simpsonville. As for schools, I'm not sure since I don't have any children (yet) but the higher education choices are great with several technical colleges and four-year universities. In the last few years, they have really added some great things to the area and revitalized downtown Spartanburg. The cost of living is signficially lower than Miami and plus you don't have to deal with hurricanes.

Slower pace, but much cheaper. Its a college town, and a very nice place to raise a family. You'll like it!

Yeah, the cost of living is DEFINITELY lower in South Carolina. I have been there, and it is one of the most gorgeous places I have ever been to.
