I love "hate me" but I'm not sure what it's really about. When I first heard the song I thought it was about his girlfriend dumping him because was an alchohalic and now he's missing her because he screwed up. But then I saw the music video and it has his mom in it and a graveyard scene. What do you think?

I think it's about the fact that he lost someone (they died or left) as a result of his behavior and now he would give anything to have them back in his life, even if he has to endure their hatred.

Better to have them here hating him than to have them gone.

Well, it's definately about his mom, but it sure does sound like an "ex-girlfriend" song. I've been searching everywhere trying to see if there is a true story behind it all.

As far as interpretation goes, it seems to me that he wants to distance himself from his mother. He wants her to hate him and to just leave him behind in her heart so that he can't hurt her anymore. He is ashamed of himself and his behavior and grateful that she helped him but he still doesn't want her to be hurt again.

I thought he was talking about his mother. At the beginning of the song, she leaves him a message on his answering machine, and the song is him thanking her for her support throughout his alcoholism problem.

i think its about his mom. And how he did all these things that hurt her, and now that shes gone he's kinda starting to feel guilty because he hurt her so many times but she was still there for him no matter what. and he didnt appreciate it.

It's about his mom stopping him from committing suicide by reminding him she loves him. And about how sad it makes him that he hurts her by being self destructive, but how much it means to him that she cares, too.

I think its about his Mom and how she has always been there for him. I think the funeral scene is him burying the past.

I think it's about four and a half minutes too long. What a bunch of whiners.
