As President of the Dungle Anglers Association (affiliated) and holder of the Dungle Fishcatcher of the Year Award (1990, 1995 and 2003), I think I can contribute to this very interesting debate.

In my opinion (from my vast experience of fishing for 57 years), it is my view, and thoughts, that the best time to go fishing, that is, placing bait on your hook and dropping it by means of a line connected to your fishing rod into the water, by water I mean a river, lake, pond, stream, sea, the best time to do it is when you know there are fish in the water to catch. Any other time is no good. You can only do it when you know there are fish there.

I hope that helps.

Late at night when the sun is not beating down on your head making you sweat and miserable.Plus it is the best time to catch catfish which pound for pound fight better than other fish in my humble opinion. Not to mention when fishing for catfish you do not have to constantly cast your line . You throw it out and leave till a catfish comes along and snatches your bait. When this happens you heart starts pounding as you leap out of your chair to get a handle on your pole so that it does not end up in the water and lost for ever. Then once you grab hold of your pole and you set the hook if you are using hold style hooks ,most people use the new circular hooks which set themselves, and the fight is on. Now you are in for a real treat as the catfish tries to free the hook form its mouth.Ahh I am going to have to stop typing and take a nap so that I can go fishing tonight.

it is always good to go early in the morning because it is not so hot out side because when it is hot out side the fish go furture down in the water because it is cooler the lower you get in the water so going in the morning or later in the afternoon is always some goodtimes to go but it realy depends apon what you want to get fish wise.

typicaly most fish are active during the morning or late night, catfish are nocturnal and feed usually in the darkness while bass and most other fish tend to come out during the early morning to feed
