Not by a long shot. With a few exceptions, NONE of the leagues in North and South America are of the same quality as the premier leagues in Europe. The biggest reason for this is that these leagues do not have the money. For example, in order to get a world class player, the team first has to pay his old team a transfer fee, which for a great player can be as high as $50 million. No team in the Americas has that kind of money, not to mention the salary you have to pay the player after he has been transfer, which, for a world class player, is usually somewhere in the $20 million dollar range. Because of this, great players do not want to play in the Americas unless they want a HUGE paycut. This is also why great players in the American leagues usually go to Europe after a few seasons.

no, the level of soccer in the MLS is not as good as the premier clubs in Europe. But, I still like to watch the MLS. The MLS will probably start bringing in big name talent from Europe, such as Zidane, Beckham, Ronaldo etc. just like the NASL did back in the 70's. The New York Cosmos used to bring in 75,000+ a game in the NASL when they had players like Pele and Beckenbaur compared to about 9,000 with today's New York Red Bulls MLS team. The league is growing and growing with the addition of Soccer Specific Stadiums and expansion teams like Toronto. But the New York Cosmos during the 70's were the biggest thing in New York.

It is worth watching. I'm a DC United fan. There is no comparison to the European teams. It's like a jv football team vs an NFL team. Maybe in a few years, MLS can move up to Varsity.

Yes. Stuart Holden & Patrick Ianni were just called from the Houston Dynamo to represent the USA in China along with bunches of other MLS players.

It won't ever get better if people don't start watching and support it. The NY - NE game the other day was just s-a-d. There was no one there. :(
