I see countless news stories about women being battered by men, and most of those stories are spun to benefit the women. If a man and a woman get into a fight, rather than the man simply hitting the woman, why does only the man go to jail?

Yes, men can be victims of domestic violence, but traditionally women are more comfortable in the role of victim.

Men can be victims as well. The reason we mostly hear about women victims is they are most likely to come forward, or get killed more often before they leave. Most men would never admit abuse happens to them they think they are not a man if it does, which is not true.
If a man and women get into a fight the man does not always go to jail. Most of the time nether one goes.
I had a fiance once who kicked in my door and shoved me down. The police told me if I did not want my door kicked in I should not lock it, and if I insisted on pressing charges against him for assault and battery them they would make me and my son leave our house and tape it up as a crime scene. They would not help me keep him away in fact they said he could come back to my house when ever he wanted. It was really bad and I ended up having to move to get away from him.
I had a friend in the same town who when her abusive husbent held a gun to her head the police told her she could leave but she could not take her son. It took her a long time after that to finally get away from him.

Sadly...and realistically...men are victims of domestic abuse/violence. But our society tends to think that when a man and a woman get into a fight - it's always the woman who's the victim and that's not always the case. I think men are just embarrased to say that they were beaten up by their wives or girlfriends. It's a blow to their image and ego. But...it does happen. Men need to stand up...just as women do...and say NO to violence. WE NEED TO PUT A STOP TO IT and stop stereotyping domestic violence as a man hitting a woman. It happens vice versa too!

Our world loves to paint women as the victims. We still tend to look at women as the weaker vessels. The fact is that men can be just as vulnerable.
I had a friend who's wife accused him of abuse of several types. It was a totally bogus claim, but she managed to get a restraining order form him and hid herself away in a women's shelter. It was frustrating to see someone get raked across the coals for just trying to be a decent husband.
True that the vast majority of victims are women, but that doesn't justify practically ignoring the fact that men can be abused as well. Some day, I'd like to see a men's shelter, after all, we claim to be living in an equitable society. Until things are equal all across the board, the gender scale will continue to be unbalanced.

Yes, men can be victims of domestic violence, but are usually too ashamed to come forward. It's hard for most women to come forward about that, so it's doubly hard for men to admit it.

Yes they can be but because of men's macho attitudes it is even less reported than domestic violence to women.

It happens. Not as often, and not near as reported, but it does happen.
