This is an abbreviation for "Pejelagarto", the Spanish name for a large freshwater gar found in Tabasco (Lopez Obrador's birthplace). Scientific name: Lepisosteus spp.
AMLO is nicknamed "Pejelagarto" or "Peje" because he is said to be like one.. living in calm waters (a reference to his calm mannerism) but voraciously attacking with sharp teeth (a reference to his political moves). Additionally, the Lepisosteus appeared in the Cretaceous period, millions of years ago, so this is also a reference about AMLO's political past, raised with PRI's political dinosaurs.
