Just North of South Africa and West of Botswana.

Am I stupid and ignorant because I looked it up on Google? (It did take me 13 seconds... I timed it). So I guess in the world geography Olympics you'd have a 13 second advantage on me.

By the way... my wife was born in Kewanee. Do you know where it is?

You've got 13 seconds!

Namibia is in SW Africa, and I can even pronounce it correctly. If
I don't know where a country is I ask the person. I would have to agree with the consenses that schools are the reason for the lack of geographic knowledge. I do stop short of saying "blame" There are many areas we have to cover in the school and somethings do fall by the way side.

The Republic of Namibia, is a country in southern Africa on the Atlantic coast. :)

I blame the lack of education in the U.S. for this sort of thing. It's not that the students are stupid, per say just not taught the information they should know.

There was actually an article recently published called: "Stupid in America", where kids in different countries tested against American students. The difference is amazing.

If you would like to see the article/watch the report the link is here:

People here seem to have a lack of intensity when it comes to education and learning. It's very sad.

You are an intelligent person and well versed in geography obviously. Good for you. I know approximately where Namibia is. I would plead ignorance though because I am personally not stupid. Geography just wasn't my favorite thing to learn in school. But that's ok!!!

Namibia is in southwestern Africa. If I didn't know where to find it, I would plead ignorance. Stupid implies lack of ability. Ignorant implies a lack of knowledge. Most people aren't stupid if they don't know where Namibia is, they do, after all, probably have the ability to learn where it is. A person who doesn't know, simply hasn't learned or hasn't asked, so they lack the knowledge. Not the ability.

Namibia borders South Africa to the Northwest and lies on Africa's Atlantic coast. It was, at least at one time, the last colony in Africa, having been (oddly, in the opinion of this American) a colony of South Africa. It was named for the Namib Desert, also known as the White Desert, due to the color of its sands.
