Recently the rear wiper arm on my care was snapped off by local asbo yobs. It's going in for it's MOT tomorrow, will this cause it to fail?

btw, this is in the UK - didn't realise they called it an MOT in the US, so wasn't expecting to get any non-UK answers

Ignore those answers! They are rubbish - not based on fact. VOSA - the official agency that runs MOT testing says that rear wiper blades are NOT part of the test. I had the same concern last month and called for their advice.

Rear washers and wipers are not required to be fitted under the Construction & Use Regulations, and they are not included in the list of testable items for the MoT inspection, so a faulty rear washer will NOT be a fail. Whether a rear wiper/washer is fitted, or was fitted originally, is immaterial.

your best to get a mot with a free re test, leave the wiper and take a bulb out of ur indicators, theyl fail it on that then wnt bother looking for other things, and after a 10 pound wiper your on your way.sorted

Yes I'm afraid so as it will fail on MOT safety standards.

I think it has to work if you have one.
If you just rip the whole lot off it might pass. Some older cars don't have them so how do they pass their mot's?

It depends usually if it was originally equipped safety item, it must be there. But some models probably didn't have one as an option. I would just take the arm off completely.
