When you are imaginative you are using your imagination to create something. When you create something, you are producing it. (These are the technical differences.)
In terms of connotation, someone who is imaginative is using make-believe or fantasy-related ideas. Someone who is creative is using more practical ideas. I also think of imaginative as being unique... the first person to come up with that idea or thing, where creative could be adapting something that already exists.

Imaginative is when someone uses their mind. Creative is when someone creates something.
You can use your imagination as input to your creation but you could just as easily use someone elses ideas in your creativity and therefore not be using your own imagination.

It's not the same, Imagine ( like John Lenon's song ) it's something you are thinking about. But Creative, it's hands-on experience. Put them together, and it will be awesome...lol
